The star has donated the entirety of his £25k honor prize money to the trust for venues, which functions to protect the Britain's small concert spaces.

The star was awarded the prize on 16 October as his latest record his work was named the best record of the past year.

He has chosen to donate the funds to the Music Venues Trust, in acknowledgment of the vital role small stages played in his beginning days.

"I would not have achieved my current career if it hadn't been for all the gigs I performed around the area, and further afield, when I was just getting going," said Fender. "These venues are renowned, but they are struggling."

Since the start of 2023, at least 150 of these spaces have ceased operations – approximately 16% of the total UK scene.

In the last year, well-known musicians such as Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its attempts to help venues survive, by adding a small levy to their admission fees, which goes to help independent venues.

Sam Fender also participated, collecting in excess of £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to assist thirty-eight local spots across Britain.

The donation helped locations that were dealing with potential shutdown due to challenges arising from floods, blazes and personal losses, as well as permit problems, conflicts and noise complaints.

Some locations received financial assistance in modernizing infrastructure and technical equipment that directly benefitted performers and concertgoers.

"The notion that revenue from concerts in big venues helps the independent spots, where it all starts for musicians like me, is just common sense," Sam Fender has stated.

Two years ago, Ezra Collective gave their winnings to the local youth club that nurtured their group, in addition to other local music groups.

Also winners that year the group donated their prize to a charity for MS after a close contact was diagnosed the condition.

"The victory was sufficient," stated singer the singer. "The cash was the extra but we didn't need the extra, because we had the main prize. So our victory touched somebody else's life."

In the past week, the trust shared it had protected two local spots in south-east England, by bringing them into community ownership.

The first in Southampton and the other in Bristol were acquired under the community ownership program, which is funded by the arts council and supporters who purchase "ownership units" in the properties.
